Ducted Evaporative Cooling Systems

“For many WA families whole of home evaporative cooling is an ideal choice for their budget, lifestyles and summer comfort.”

Evaporative Air Cooling [EAC] is extremely popular in Western Australia. Industry estimates suggest that there are around 120,000 whole of home evaporative coolers in WA. Over 15,000 of these installed by GAS&AIR.

In our hot and dry climate EAC’s are a blessing.

  • EAC’s are extremely efficient, converting small quantities of electricity and water into cooling energy many times the input. This has been referred to as the miracle of evaporative cooling.
  • EAC’s are also extremely effective in quickly bringing down the temperature to pleasant conditions.
  • Fantastic for family situations
  • No more hot sleepless nights.
  • Great for in-door plants and pets.
  • No recycled air, remove cooking odours and smoke.

How do they work? It is a natural process, like a sea breeze on call 24hours a day. With an evaporative cooler, outside air is drawn through a water saturated “Celdek” filters , in doing so the hot air sacrifices its heat Thus cooled air is then ducted into your home. Unlike reverse cycle air conditioners which recycles the air continually, evaporative coolers pass the air through the home only once. Air is exuasted from the home via an external, equivalent full door, opening. And with our uniquely designed “Air Security Relief grille” for about $200, you may operate the system up to half speed with the home entirely locked up.

Why can’t we zone parts of the home? There’s no need to, with a low purchase price and low operating costs allow the entire home to be simultaneously cooled.

Are they healthy? There is a perception held by a few that these type of coolers cause health concerns. Sadly, the media does confuse evaporative cooling with cooling towers. There is no resemblance between the two. I have yet to have a report from any of our 15,000 customers, or have I been advised any health departments any concern with these types of systems. I believe they are ideal for any person, young to senior. And they’re great for hay fever suffers.

How much do they cost to install? Generally between $3,000 and $5000. There is one golden rule you should apply when buying EAC, never compromise by installing a smaller capacity unit. You will be disappointed.

Which is the best unit to purchase? Better known makes will perform more reliably and longer than unknown makes. Also, well established specialist retailers will mostly sell only reliable products.

Installation, what’s involved? Contrary to belief, the majority of the purchase is not the machine. Ducting, fittings, electrical work, plumbing and installation labour offers sellers many opportunities to reduce the purchase cost. This is an area highly over looked by many prospective buyers.

How much to run?
For a large typical Perth 4x2 size home approximate costs are around 75cents a day.

Servicing? We recommend a yearly regardless of the ‘water management’ supplied, cost $95-$110.

Why do I recommend Evaporative Cooling systems? I recommend evaporative cooling for most families in their first or second homes especially those with young children. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that evaporative coolers are poor man’s air conditioners. They are not. In fact there are thousands of families who prefer it to refrigerated air conditioning because it is less drying and there is a constant supply of cool clean fresh air. This is a very subjective area, my advice is to experience both do your research before you buy.
