“Refrigerated Ducted Airconditioning provides year round
comfort.”
Refrigerated Air Conditioning has become increasingly popular in recent
years because it can provide comfort in summer & winter at a selected
temperature range of 18 to 25 degrees.
How do they work? There are two separate mechanical
parts. An outdoor compressor and an indoor consol/fan coil. These are
connected by electrical controls and refrigerated copper piping.
An outdoor compressor unit compresses liquid into a gas state
to allow the refrigeration effect to take place, exactly the same
way as does your home refrigerator. The compressed gas is transferred
through the connecting copper pipe the consol installed inside
your home or ceiling space.
An indoor unit/consol basically consists of a fan and a coil
( similar to a car radiator appearance). The fan is connected
and then controlled by a room installed thermostat that draws
the air from inside the home, passes it through a filter and then
recirculates throughout your home approximately 10 times each
hour.
How much does it cost to run? Room split consols approx. $15 to $25per week, ducted $20
to $40per week
How do I compare products? Well known brand names
are a safe option and established specialist retailers generally
only sell reliable and proven products. Outside compressor noise
level should be a prime consideration. The lower the decibel rating
of the unit, the happier you neighbours will be. Also, new “Inverter”
products, particularly units above 6kw are superior in all functions
than non-Inverter models and “inverter” operating costs
are about 30% less.
Installation, what’s involved? Ducted
systems in particular, require a lot of ducting, fittings (none
of which are supplied by the machine maker) and labour, and represent
about the same cost as the machine. This provides sellers the opportunity
to vary the size, quality and labour standard to reduce the selling
price. An area many prospective buyers overlook.
What is Zoning? Refrigerated Air Conditioning
is often zoned to keep the purchase and running costs to minimum.
Typically, the house is zoned according to the families’ lifestyle.
How it works is by a series of dampers [gates] that direct the flow
of air in the ducting system to one area or another similarly to
that of your home reticulation. A control panel inside your home
is provided for convenient “zone” use.
Do I need three phase power? Generally no for most homes.
However, larger homes may be more suited to three phase.
Designing the right system: Rarely are two homes or
two families needs [including budget] the same. This is why at GAS&AIR
we focus on three areas:
Careful analysis of the home and family needs and available budget
Determine from this the correct system design
Select the appropriate mahine make and installation materials
Confirm our proposal will meet our clients requirements
GAS&AIR designs systems from the “Two Zone”
or “Mini-Ducted” systems, for the apartment, villa or
retirement home through to multi zone and multi unit systems for mansions.
How much do they cost to Purchase?
As a guide the “Two Zone” systems would start from $4500.00.
This would give a day and a night zone.
The Perth family home will start from $8000.00, say 8 outlets and
three zones. A 4 bed, 2 bath home generally requires 12 outlets and
5 zones…
An all up cost of $9000 to $12000.
Can I improve the air quality? Yes. To improve air
quality, many people choose to filter the air beyond what is required
to protect the indoor coil.
A number of different grades of filter material are available.
What after sales maintainence is required? We recommend
a yearly preventive maintenance service be conducted two years after purchase
(cost approx. $150.00). Regular Return-air filter cleaning is required.
